It is so important to have absolute clarity about how much you want your business to consistently earn every month, or every year.

That sum should be enough to keep your business stable, to pay you enough to live the life you want to live, and to have some money left over for savings/emergencies/ splurge money.

If you haven’t got a clear consistent revenue sum in mind for your business, you’re drowning before you start.

Once you know the figure you want/need to achieve consistently, it gives you the power to then start to build your business around that that sum.

That revenue figure will inform everything you do, including:-

• Knowing the products/services you’re going to launch and sell.

• Knowing the monthly sales targets for those products/services, that will enable you to hit your consistent revenue figure.

• Knowing how often and where you’re going to show up to give enough value/create enough content to and for your audience, that will help people make a purchasing decision from you.

• Knowing how you’ll keep your business stable, and afford your life, until that consistent revenue amount is reached.

• Knowing that you need to keep clear budgets and records of spending, so that you are limiting non necessary indulgences, until your consistent revenue figure arrives.

Many small business owners will never take time to quantify their consistent revenue figure - why? Because doing so can feel scary.

And doing so can bring a whole big dose of reality, taking you out of your dreams and hopes, and in to what your business actually looks like now.

• It can show that you are nowhere near the revenue level you need to be at, and that can feel very overwhelming.

• It can show the glaring inconsistencies in your business that are resulting in you not making enough money (inconsistencies like never speaking about the products/services you sell, or targeting the wrong audience, or being in the wrong spaces).

• It can force you to start to direct your attention more to priority tasks like selling, and away from just showing up and sharing content that feels comfy and easy.

• It can make clear the hill you’ve got to climb, and the consistency and discipline you’re personally going to have to have in place, to start to make a dent in that that revenue goal.

I get it - it can feel real frightening to get clarity about your consistent revenue goal. That’s why so many business owners avoid setting that figure out in the first place.

But you’re in business. And if you want to stay in business. You have to stop treating what you’re doing like a comfortable hobby, and start being more entrepreneurial in your decisions, actions and strategy moving forwards.

I can guarantee that without that consistent revenue figure in place, you’ll mostly be floundering around in the dark.

As a side note, your revenue figure does not have to be some astronomical monthly or yearly sum that so many shout about achieving in all the noise online.

But your consistent revenue figure does need to be an amount that will support both your life and your business moving forwards.

When you know that figure, you’ll have clear sight of the goal ahead. And knowing that goal, you can start to create better strategy around how you’re going to achieve that amount, rather than remaining in a comfort zone of showing up with hope on a wing and a prayer.
